Owner of the Crocodile Creek farm in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, Watson has handled crocodiles for more than 30 years since opening the facility in 1983.
But this time, he took his eye off the ball.
Standing next to the huge reptile, Watson prods its tail with a stick – but the animal reacts furiously and spins round to charge.
It leaps forwards and grabs Watson’s foot before shaking its head violently from side to side.
Thankfully, he managed to escape, suffering bite wounds to his foot but being spared any further injury.
More than 90,000 people have seen the clip since it was uploaded to video sharing site LiveLeak.
“Let me poke this prehistoric death machine with a stick, I have my thick socks on, I am invincible,” wrote one unimpressed viewer.
Another said: “Don’t poke the bear – or in this case the croc.”
